Days 9 and 10

Yesterday we heard the word "home" it was the first time we had heard that word in a long time.  The goal was Saturday but they hated to commit and said that it still could be early next week.

He had had a better night on the step down unit and looked like a different kid when they came around.  Who's to say what it was that helped? It could have been the delirium medicine, it could have been getting away from the beeps and cries of 6 other babies in the crib room, it could have been getting on top of his pain or the fact that his parents were close by whatever it was, we'll take it.  Yesterday was a good day, Phillip and Keller hung out all afternoon while Nanny, Norah and I dealt with a laundry debacle.  (8 hours and $10 to do two loads of laundry, in two different places, ridiculous!).

Last night Keller only woke up twice and was easily soothed back to sleep.  Today, during rounds they continued the talk of going home and still talking about possibly tomorrow.  Today, he has still largely been sleeping but he has had awake time where he wasn't upset.  He is totally over the hospital and if you wake him from his sleep he assumes you are there to do something rude to him.  He will look at you directly in your eyes and scream at you!

They have changed some of his medications around the last couple of days to gear us towards home and he has tolerated that very well.  Today he hasn't needed his pain medications every 4 hours which makes Phillip and I more confident that he isn't totally dependent on them to be happy.  I guess discharge relies on how he does tonight.  But he was awake and in a little seat when I got back from dinner and has been awake and watching the goings on in the hallway.  We are so ready to get this little cutie home!
