Post Op Day 3

Keller had a better day today.  He has been without a fever since yesterday morning.  The tests that have come back that were done in response to the fever have come back normal.  The other tests (cultures) should have results tomorrow.  He was started on pedialyte yesterday at a very slow rate and that was changed to his soy formula today.  He is now getting 10 mL an hour of the formula and it will be increased slowly until he reaches his goal of 24mL/hour.

Though he has rested better today, he will wake up crying and need to be soothed back to sleep. Sometimes soothing can settle him, sometimes he needs pain medications.  His gas pains are back and so he needs his g-tube vented to help release some of the air trapped in his belly.  When he gets upset his oxygen saturation drops and his work of breathing increases. His chest x-rays are not clear yet but they are still trying to figure out what is normal for Keller and what are significant findings.

His dressing has been removed so we can now see his incision.  I think it looks pretty good but I don't know if it's too graphic to share.

The big news today was that I got to hold him! He has so many tubes and wires but it was nice to have him in my arms again.

There's a medication he has that requires him to stay in the PCICU while he's getting it; they decided this morning to keep him on that another day so we will see what tomorrow holds.

I missed the shuttle tonight because right before I left he woke up and looked at me with this face

I mean, who could just walk away from that?!
